Polly Barton's passion for design form in its beauty yet simple creation has transcended her 20 year successful career in brand packaging design working in London and Sydney. Originally from Henley-on-Thames in the UK, she lives in Sydney in New South Wales, Australia.
Polly’s love of the arts came to fruition through her studies at art college, followed by her university degree in graphic design. Her motivation and inspiration are driven by working directly with materials such as paints and clay and creating original artworks by hand.
With ceramics she enjoys creating the curvy soft undulating handmade forms, often with a coastal aesthetic. And she is inspired by the very fact that each piece is very much one-of-a-kind: individual in its form that serves both functionally and in its beauty.
Her tableware combines striking sculptural aesthetics with practical functionality, designed for everyday use while maintaining a perfect balance of form and utility.
In the studio, each clay form will either be turned and trimmed on a potter's wheel or hand built using the coil or slab technique. The handmade pottery is then bisque fired in a kiln to turn the clay into ceramic.
Each ceramic is then glazed before being fired one last time so to heat the glaze to its optimal level of melting. The glazed collections available are from testing and trying different glaze mixes and how they are applied.
